POSITION SUMMARY: 

Our Associate Artistic Director reports directly to the Artistic Director and will oversee all producing and casting of the Mainstage, Studio and TYA productions at the organization. The Associate Artistic Director will serve on the senior management team and will also be a consistent public face for The Rep, both locally and nationally. The Associate Artistic Director will maintain communication channels within the organization and will work closely with all departments to manage flow of information, allotment of resources and calendar management for the season. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, support and/or management of the following areas: season selection, pre-production planning and hiring, casting, active production oversight, oversight of educational programming, and oversight and management of artistic and educational budgets.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

PRODUCING

  • Lead producer for all Mainstage, Studio and TYA productions.
  • In collaboration with the Artistic Director, develop creative teams for all productions.
  • Work with Artistic Director and Director of Production on season calendar and scheduling.
  • Hire Stage Management teams for all productions.
  • Have an understanding of all LORT CBA’s.
  • Attend weekly Production Department Head meetings and weekly Production meetings.
  • Work with the Artistic Director to ensure artistic quality of all the productions and act in the their stead when requested.
  • Collaborate regularly with Artistic Director in the execution their vision across the organization.
  • Support Management team with artist hospitality and care.

 

 

CASTING

  • Act as lead casting director for local auditions, including scheduling and facilitating with actors and AEA.
  • Act as liaison between casting directors and artistic personnel to create audition schedules which fulfill AEA requirements and the needs of each production.
  • Attend all auditions, locally and nationally as needed by the Artistic Director.
  • Scout talent in St. Louis by attending local productions.
  • Send out all offer letters and contracts for actors.
  • Work with Webster Conservatory to audition students for appropriate available roles.

 

SEASON PLANNING

  • Work with Artistic Director on selecting and budgeting future seasons.
  • Read and/or identify potential titles to produce in The Rep’s season.
  • Help maintain the collective database of possible work for season selection with the Artistic Director and Artistic Associate while also helping oversee the Artistic Associate's facilitation of staff and board suggestions appropriately into the planning database.
  • Serve as the primary artistic staff person to read and evaluate submissions of new work for further development. Identify emerging performers, directors, choreographers, etc by attending productions both locally and nationally.

 

L.A.C.E

  • Supervise the Learning and Community Engagement (L.A.C.E) team and manage departmental budget. 
  • Facilitate team meetings twice a week with the L.A.C.E team.
  • Create goals, action steps, and accountability items for the department.
  • Assist the L.A.C.E department on hitting revenue goals.
  • Assist with grants for L.A.C.E specific funding.
  • Support the team with producing the Story2Stage Festival, the Imaginary Theatre Company, and Camp Rep.
  • Support the team with organizing RepresentSTL panels and connecting with community partners.
  • Maintain community partnerships and create more.
  • Support the team with post-performance talkbacks and Q&A’s.
  • Help plan and facilitate Lifelong Learning matinees.

 

ADMINISTRATION

  • Maintain responsibility for both the Artistic office annual budget, as well as the artistic portion of the production budgets.
  • Share management of direct report, the Artistic Associate, as agreed upon with the Artistic and Executive Directors.
  • Contract all actors and creative team members. Keep the contracting database up to date.
  • Support the Development Department by attending and hosting donor events. Hire talent for the annual benefit gala in collaboration with the Artistic Director and chairs.
  • Support the Marketing department by contributing to newsletters, brochures, and programs with the Artistic Director. Attend and coordinate talent for publicity events. 
  • Work with Finance to verify actor and creative team payments.
  • Make live curtain speeches when necessary. 
  • Attend Board Meetings and Volunteer Board Meetings.

ENVIRONMENT

This position requires the ability to work seated and standing for several hours at a time. Some filing is required. The work environment is an air-conditioned, smoke-free, office environment. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This position may require local, day travel. Night and weekend work are a regular part of this position.
