Tuesday | Jan. 11, 2022
ST. LOUIS (January 11, 2022) – The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (The Rep) is pleased to present The 39 Steps, adapted by Patrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchan. Preview performances begin Friday, January 21, officially opening Friday, January 28 and running through February 13, 2022 on the Mainstage at the Loretto- Hilton Center for Performing Arts in Webster Groves.
Hitchcock meets hilarity in this madcap comedic thriller. Richard Hannay is an everyday bloke looking for a little more excitement in his life; but he gets more than he bargains for when he is unwittingly plunged into the world of spies, agents and espionage. Now it’s up to him, with the help of a mysterious woman, to thwart the plot of the dubious organization known as “The 39 Steps.” Don’t miss the tour de force performances as four actors take on over 150 roles in a plot packed with intrigue, international danger, old-fashioned romance, high-spirited comedy and a death-defying finale. Last performed at The Rep in the 2009-2010 season, The 39 Steps will be directed by Kate Bergstrom.
“We couldn’t be more excited to kick off the New Year by bringing back this fun and exciting comedy adventure under the direction of Kate Bergstrom - a vibrant and visionary voice in modern theatre, ” said Hana S. Sharif, Augustin Family Artistic Director at The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis.
The cast includes Ryan Colbert as Richard Hannay, Olivia Gillliat as Pamela/Annabella/Margaret, Jimmy Kieffer as Clown and Futaba Shioda as Clown.
The production includes Scenic Designer Stephanie Osin Cohen, Costume Designer Tilly Grimes, Lighting Designer Christina Watanabe, Sound Designer Broken Chord, Dialect Coach Thom Jones, Stage Manager Emilee Buchheit and Assistant Stage Manager Lorraine Fiore.
