Steven Woolf receives two awards for artistic achievement

With The Rep's Augustin Family Artistic Director Steven Woolf set to retire at the end of the 2018-2019 season, organizations both national and local are taking the time to recognize his decades of artistic excellence.

On June 10, St. Louis's Arts for Life Best Performance Awards honored Steve with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Then the Theatre Communications Group honored Steve with its prestigious Theatre Practitioner Award on June 14 during its national conference, hosted right here in St. Louis.

"It's almost an old-fashioned idea to dedicate over 30 years of your life to a single job, putting ambition for an organization before ambition for self, and curating a multi-decade conversation with your community. That's what Steve Woolf's been doing," said Susan V. Booth, artistic director of Atlanta's Alliance Theatre, in introducing Steve for his TCG honor.

Steve followed up that introduction with a typically gracious acceptance speech:

As part of his final season at The Rep, Steve will direct our February production of Oslo, along with the soon-to-be-announced first production of our Studio Theatre season, which opens in October. We can't wait to experience this special year!
