COMPENSATION: Pay begins at $15.00/hour

POSITION SUMMARY

The Repertory Theater of St. Louis is in search of seasonal employees to work as counselors for summer camp. A Rep Summer Camp Counselor is a college-aged student with an interest in theater, performing arts, multimedia, education, or some other related field. The counselors will help teachers and staff manage camp throughout the day and will be working hands-on with campers.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead group activities and monitor campers

  • Ensure campers are participating in classes and the tech process safely and respectfully.

  • Respond to incidents, such as behavioral problems or accidents.

  • Log events and maintain records relating to camp daily activities.

  • Discuss camper participation and concerns with parents and other camp staff members.

  • Participate in training and camp staff meetings.

  • Support the administrative team by setting up classrooms, posting signage, managing drop off/pick up.

  • Administering first aid, when necessary.

  • Serve as stage management/crew members during the final showcase performances.

  • Some counselors may be assigned one-on-one camper monitoring duties, should any of our campers have a need for more direct attention. 

WORK HOURS

  • Training and orientation dates will be July 1-2, 2024.

  • Camp Sessions are July 8-July 19 and July 22-August 2, 2024.

  • Camp Hours are 9am-4pm, Monday-Friday. Staff hours are approximately 8:30am - 4:30pm, with a 30-minute break for lunch.

  • The final day of each camp session is an extended performance day. Staff hours are approximately 8:30am - 6:00pm, with a 30-minute break for lunch.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Cultural competency and awareness of popular youth culture.
  • Understanding of best practices for working with students with emotional, cognitive, and physical disabilities.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Fun, positive, and proactive personality.
  • Leadership skills and strong communication skills.
  • Prior First Aid Certification is not required, but a plus.
  • Hired Applicants agree to submit to a required background check before the start of camp. 

COVID-19 AND VACCINATION POLICY

As a condition of employment, The Rep will require all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including one booster.
