Docent Visits
Wonder how we made Dracula disappear, or why that man was dressed up as a woman in My Fair Lady? Ask a Rep Docent!
At The Rep, we believe that the more the process of making theatre is demystified for the viewer, the more pleasurable and miraculous the theatre experience actually is. To that end, The Rep’s trained corps of volunteer docents helps prepare student audiences for their theatre experiences by sharing information about the themes and elements of each production.
The Rep is proud to offer free docent presentations to schools attending any Rep Mainstage production. Scheduled either prior to or after attendance, these presentations have been proven to increase student involvement in the theatre experience. Docents lead discussion and facilitate activities aimed at providing deeper insights into the play content and technical values.
For those teachers who are unable to host a docent presentation, we also offer Virtual Docents. New this season, we can now link you to one of our docents via email and give you some of the technical tidbits and backstage secrets that really make a performance come alive. Since you are in direct communication with a docent, you can also ask for any other specific information that would benefit your class.
If you are interested in a Docent or Virtual Docent for any of our shows, or if you’d like more information about what docents can provide for your class, please contact Mark Chaitin at (314) 968-7344 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
What students and teachers had to say…
“I think the docents were a huge help. I would have been lost throughout the entire play…. I would enjoy them coming back for every play. They were wonderful.”
“Thanks so much for speaking to our students and preparing them so well for this experience!”
“Thanks to the ‘world’s greatest docent.’ ... He had such a wealth of background knowledge and information to share, and we all learned so much from his presentation. ...It was a grand celebration for all of us.”
